Long Way Home charges a volunteer program fee in order to cover the cost of hosting volunteers and generate revenue for our projects. Our program fee is $75 USD per week or $300 USD per month for individuals wishing to stay at our Volunteer House. If you decide to live with a family add $10/week to the program fee; if you chose to stay at Hotel Comalapa Sol add $20/week to the program fee.
We pride ourselves on offering a particularly cost-effective volunteer experience. Approximately 25% of the program fee covers the cost of us housing you: rent, cleaning and some cooking supplies, drinking water, house laundry, limited internet access, on-site staff support and training. The remaining 75% of the program fee goes directly into our project to help cover the cost of project materials and to pay the salaries of our Guatemalan and Gringo crew.
We believe that volunteers and interns significantly contribute to our projects by showing up to work, and we greatly value the opportunity to work with different people who infuse our organization and projects with a range of skills sets and knowledge.
Our internship program provides a priceless experience where you will learn the benefits and challenges of development work by being able to work side-by-side with our Guatemalan partners and staff.
We hope through our program volunteers will learn how to become innovative leaders in their communities and throughout the world.
Make a Deposit to Secure Your Space
We offer a remarkably affordable program that is often at capacity several months in advance. After your application has been approved, please make a nonrefundable $75 USD deposit to secure your space. By submitting your deposit you are reserving your spot with Long Way Home for the dates that you indicate. This allows us to anticipate how many volunteers we will have on site at any given time and also gives you the security of knowing that we are holding a spot for you.
